Internal

  • Testes
    • It is the male sex glands
    • Located in the scrotum, one testis in each compartment
    • Functions
      • Seminiferous tubules form spermatozoa
      • Interstitial cells secrete testosterone main androgen; increase protein synthesis, induce growth of secondary sex characteristics
  • Epididymis
    • It conducts semen from testes to vas deferens; matures while semen is stored before ejaculation.
  • Vas deferens
    • Conducts sperm and fluid from each epididymis to an ejaculatory duct.
  • Spermatic cords
    • The spermatic cord passes through the inguinal canal. At the deep inguinal ring the structures within the cord divergent. It suspends the testes in the scrotum.
  • Seminal vesicles
    • It secretes fluid that constitutes about 30% of semen.
  • Ejaculatory duct
    • Ejaculate semen into the urethra.
  • Prostate gland
    • Secrets about 60% of semen; secretion is alkaline, which increases sperm mortality; contains the enzymes acid phosphatase.

External

  • Scrotum
    • It contains the testes, epididymis, and the first part of seminal ducts; sperm develops at 2 to 3 degrees below body temperature.
  • Penis
    • Contains urethra; contain vascular spaces that when filled with blood cause erection.
