Tumor in Ear

Subject: Medical and Surgical Nursing II (Theory)

Overview

An unnatural growth of body tissue is called a tumor. Cancerous and non-cancerous tumors both exist. They can develop on the outer ear, inside the middle or inner ear, or in the ear canal. Distinct tumors in the ear have different behaviors. Generally speaking, tumors seem to develop in areas of the body where cell division is problematic. Ear tumors can be categorized based on where they are located or how they behave ( malignant and benign).

Tumor in ear

An unnatural growth of body tissue is called a tumor. Cancerous and non-cancerous tumors both exist. They can develop on the outer ear, inside the middle or inner ear, or in the ear canal. Distinct tumors in the ear have different behaviors.

Pathophysiology

  • Generally speaking, tumors seem to develop whenever the body's cell division is disrupted.
  • Cell division in the body is usually tightly regulated. In order to execute a new function or to replace aging cells, new cells are produced.
  • Damaged or unnecessary cells are eliminated to make place for good activity.
  • A tumor may develop if the harmony between cell division and death is upset.

Causes and risk factor

  • Problems with the body's immune system can lead to tumor
  • Tobacco
  • Other causes include:
    • Benzene and other chemicals and toxins
    • Drinking excessive alcohol
    • Excessive sunlight exposure
    • Genetic problems
    • Radiation

Tumors of the ear are classified either by location or by their behavior( malignant and benign).

By Location

  • Tumors of the external ear
  • Tumors of the middle ear

By Behaviour

  • Benign tumor
  • Malignant tumors
