Overview

Branches/Scopes of Psychology

General Psychology :

It is focused on a fundamental aspect of psychology. Theoretical knowledge, principles, and facts are studied. In order to improve and broaden psychology's perspectives on human experiences, it uses scientific methods to undertake study on psychological processes including learning, intelligence, memory, reasoning, bias, emotion, and personality, among others.

Clinical Psychology:

It employs psychological techniques to investigate, identify, and treat people' aberrant behavior.

Child Psychology:

It examines children from the prenatal stage to adolescence and describes how adolescence, pre-school, toddlerhood, and other life stages might influence a child's behavior. In child psychology, the entire socialization spectrum is illustrated. It highlights how a child's physical, mental, emotional, morale, educational, and motor development are all growing in a healthy way. Additionally, it investigates a child's intellectual and social development, as well as their self-concept and genetic influences.

Social Psychology:

It examines a person's conduct to understand how it is impacted by others and how a person impacts other people's behavior. Diverse group phenomena, such as group hostility, social interaction, persuasion, social conformity, group formation, and so on, are the focus of social psychologists.

Developmental Psychology.

It studies about how people grow and develop through out their life span. It studies the whole life span of the individuals and focuses on age-related specific (for e.g. language) behavioral change.

Body and Mind Relationship

Body and Mind

There are several examples of how the mind and body work together. For instance, we can find it difficult to get enough rest the night before an important exam or assignment. In a similar vein, we may find it difficult to focus and think clearly if we have a fever or physical pain.

The mind is the culmination of all mental processes, and it functions on the levels of thought, emotion, and action. Psychology studies the connections between the mind and body. There is an integrated reaction, whereby the mind and body cannot respond independently of one another. The body's reactions will influence our thoughts, and our thoughts will eventually have an impact on the body.

Examples of actions of mind upon body

  • All physical and motor activities begin by the motivation in the mind.
  • Negative emotions like fear, anger and jealousy produce illness. They make us depressed. Emotional conflicts lie at the root of peptic ulcers, coronary heart diseases, blood pressure and neurosis.
  • Deep thinking and concentration can cause physical fatigue etc.

Examples of actions of body upon mind:

  • An increase in blood pressure causes mental agitation.
  • Intuition is slowed by fatigue.
  • Mental imbalance is brought on by sudden emotional outburst.
  • Irritability is a result of constipation.
  • Dyspepsia causes people to feel down.
  • Hypothyroidism causes inertia or lethargy, whereas hyperthyroidism causes excitation.
  • Septic tonsils and a sore throat might impair focus.
  • Dyspnea causes agitation, among other things.
