Components of Community Health Diagnosis

Subject: Community Health Nursing I

Overview

The components of community health diagnosis include:

Demographic characteristics

The term "demographics" refers to statistical information on a population's traits, such as its age, gender, and income levels. An example of compiling demographic data is when the census compiles information on people's ages and genders. It contains:

Age, sex, education, income, marital status, occupation, religion, birth and death rates, average family size, and average age at marriage are socioeconomic characteristics of a population that are statistically expressed. A census is a compendium of the population's demographic characteristics.

  • Knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) on health and health issue:
    • A Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices (KAP) survey is a quantitative approach that accesses both quantitative and qualitative data by using prepared questions presented in standardized questionnaires. Misconceptions or misunderstandings that could be impediments to the initiatives we want to put in place or possible obstacles to behavior change are revealed by KAP surveys. Keep in mind that a KAP poll is based on the "declarative" and essentially captures a "opinion" (i.e., statements). In other words, the KAP survey reveals what people stated, but there may be large discrepancies between what people say and what they actually do.
  • Maternal and child health:
    • The term "maternal and child health" (MCH) describes the condition of mothers, newborns, young children, and teenagers. It also refers to a career in public health dedicated to advancing the physical condition and long-term problems of this vulnerable demographic.
  • Morbidity and disability:
    • Morbidity is the presence of an illness, a symptom of a disease, or the overall prevalence of disease in a community. Morbidity also refers to health issues brought on by a course of treatment. Any impairment, whether it be cognitive, developmental, intellectual, mental, physical, sensory, or a combination of these, is considered to be a disability. It may be present from birth or develop over the course of a person's lifetime and has a significant impact on their daily activities.
  • Availability of health services and its utilisation:
    • The use of health care services is referred to as the availability of those services and their consumption. People seek medical attention for a variety of reasons, such as diagnosing and treating illnesses, encouraging the maintenance of health and wellbeing, and learning about their current and future health conditions.
  • Community resources:
    • Community resources include a wide range of items that may be taken for granted on a daily basis but nevertheless enhance quality of life.
  • Community leaders:
    • Community leader is a title given to someone who is thought to represent a community, frequently by secondary sources (especially in the media). Consider it as leadership in, for, and by the community if you want a straightforward explanation of community leadership.
  • Culture and Tradition:
    • Culture is the social customs and conduct that characterize human societies. A key idea in anthropology, culture includes a wide range of phenomena that are passed down through social learning in human cultures.
    • Tradition is an inherited, established, or usual pattern of thought, action, or behavior (such as a religious practice or a social custom), a belief or tale, or a collection of ideas or stories about the past that are generally recognized as historically accurate but cannot be verified.
