Exploration:

A community's request for a health survey or one from those in charge of delivering health services will trigger one. In either case, the locals will likely work well with the surveyors. This might not be the case if the community is polled informally or by outsiders. It's crucial to keep in mind that once a community has given permission for a survey to be conducted, it has a right to anticipate some positive outcomes in exchange for its cooperation. Therefore, it is important to always plan surveys with the goal of implementing a suitable action program for the community.

Interaction with community leaders:

Working your way up the hierarchy of authorities is the next action to do after the exploration. The goals must also be communicated to the government and medical personnel who are more directly involved with the community. The community leaders may be the last to be contacted because they are at the bottom of the hierarchy of officials, but they are crucial to the survey's success, so it is essential that they are made aware of what will happen and how and why. It is also necessary to enlist their help in putting the survey into action.

Thinking what can be investigated and where:

It is important to learn as much as you can about the neighborhood. A census book may provide details regarding demographic characteristics and population size. Although it might not include the most recent information, estimations could be performed to determine the community's current population sizes.

Planning the survey and questionnaire:

This includes the key element of the entire community diagnosis procedure. There is little chance that the community diagnostic will be carried out successfully and produce trustworthy results if the planning is not done thoroughly and is not followed by a thorough exploration effort. During the planning process, the following questions must be addressed:

  • What is the purpose of the survey?
  • Where is it going to happen? The section on exploration discussed the first decision to be made in relation to community diagnosis.
  • Who will be questioned?
  • When will the survey be conducted?
  • What will the survey cover?
  • Why are some variables present when others are not?
  • What will be the method used to assess the health of the neighborhood?

Training interviewer done in planning phase:

  • Pretesting:
    • This refers to testing to see if the questions are appropriate, relevant, and able to be asked, answered, and analyzed. If a question doesn't fit these requirements, it needs to be rewritten or removed from the form.
  • Sampling for a study:
    • Population and sampling techniques are required.
  • Carrying out the survey:
    • The survey's execution needs to be done with the same level of attention as its planning.
  • Results analysis:
    • Data should be systematically evaluated to draw conclusions and pinpoint the issues in that field.
  • Report writing:
    • A report should be written entirely in light of the findings.
  • Feedback to the neighborhood:
    • The outcome that was presented is helpful for community improvement and corrective action. The feedback should be used to determine what sort of incentive the community should receive in exchange for their involvement. The confidential nature of individual investigations must always be respected, so feedback must be rated in terms of the population as a whole rather than mentioning specific people.
  • Initial health action after community diagnosis:
    • Following a diagnosis in the community, immediate health measures, such as immunization, should be taken.
  • Analysis and interpretation of results:
    • The data analysis phase entails data administration and the application of statistical techniques.
