Describe the criteia for the types of nurse family contact?
Criteria for determining the type of nurse-family contact are given below:
Nursing Family Contact Goals
Nurse family contact is made based on the purpose of the contact. A group conference is preferable when providing health education to a large group.
Time availability
The type of contact is determined by the nurse's and family's availability of time. If the nurse is pressed for time, a clinic visit is preferable. If family members are involved in their field work, a home visit may not be appropriate. Similarly, no industrial or school visits are permitted during the holidays.
Resource accessibility and availability
If the nurse does not have enough resources to provide health education or services, nurse-family contact is ineffective or impossible.
Client Characteristics
The nature of the clients influences the type of nurse family contact. If the clients have children, a school visit is ideal, and if the clients are housewives, a home visit is the best way for the nurse to maintain contact with the family.
The types of health services that will be provided
A clinic visit is required for routine care, a group conference is required for providing an awareness program, and school health programs, such as the school TT program, necessitate a school visit.
Sources of infection must be identified.
Nurses with family contacts can be chosen to identify infection sources. During an endemic or epidemic, the best way to identify the source of infection is through a home visit.
