Overview

Myocarditis is an inflammation of the myocardium that can show clinically in a variety of ways, from mild (appearing momentarily and going away) to a rapidly worsening, deadly condition. Myocarditis can be brought on by a variety of illnesses, including those caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasites, protozoa, Rh-fever, pericarditis, endocarditis, allergic reactions, etc.

Signs and symptoms

  • Fever.
  • Chest pain.
  • Pericardial friction rub.
  • A gallop rhythm.
  • Murmur sounds.
  • Fatigue.
  • Dyspnea.
  • Tachycardia.

Management

  • Help the customer find a comfortable position, like sitting up or leaning forward.
  • Provide NSAIDs, salicylates, and analgesics as directed to lower temperature and pain
  • Utilize 02 as directed.
  • Limit your activities and get enough rest to prevent overexertion and lower your heart's workload.
  • Give digoxin, antibiotics, and antidysrhythmics as directed, and keep an eye out for any symptoms of digoxin toxicity.
  • Keep an eye out for issues like thrombus formation, heart failure, and cardiomyopathy.
