Tread Mill Test (TMT)

Subject: Medical and Surgical Nursing I (Theory)

Overview

Exercise on a treadmill bike combined with electrocardiography (ECG) and blood pressure monitoring is known as a treadmill test or stress test. It is the stress test method that is most frequently employed.

A cardiac stress test evaluates a heart's capacity to react to outside stress in a safe, clinical setting. Exercising or being stimulated by a medication will trigger the stress response. The tests show any abnormal blood flow to the myocardium by contrasting the coronary circulation of the patient at rest with that patient's circulation during maximum physical exertion.
