Goal of Rehabilitation

The main goal is to prevent secondary disability, maintenance of self-care and meeting their needs. So, the goals of rehabilitation are:

  • To restore potential function:

The involvement of the patient in his/her care is most important aspect to improve the condition or to deteriorate it. The negative attitude towards disability may lead to handicap. Most of the handicapped people restrict the movements of their limbs which cause difficulty to carry out daily activities, difficulties in coordination and is time consuming leading to frustration. Therefore the patient should be encouraged to car out daily activities by using other senses, for example

  • Blindness: Use of sound 'talk' or 'speech'.
  • Deaf: Seeing, use of sign language will appropriate
  • Amputated Limb: Use of prosthesis. Demonstrate the new ways of 'how to walk', how to dres undress, eat and perform daily activities. Th device can be used in the hospital as well as home. The members at home must be oriente about the new procedure and techniques fo applying and removing the prosthesis.

Maximizing Existing Capabilities:

Every disable person has some parts functioning well. It all depend on the patient's positive attitude about how muc he/she is willing to participate in his/her conditio and willing to maximally use the existing capabilitie If the disabled actively involves in self care and trie to be self reliant, grievance over the lost part minimized. Therefore, setting a goal and establishing a plan of action is essential in rehabilitation.

Preventing Deterioration:

Another goal preventing deterioration and secondary disabilitie For this, the body parts are kept in position b exercise. The nurses are more concerned about th patients and are responsible to prevent deterioratio of the condition and secondary disabilities. Fo example:

  • A Disuse syndrome.
  • Misuse Syndrome.
