Subject: Medical and Surgical Nursing I (Theory)
A team of people must collaborate and provide specialized services in diverse health care settings as part of the creative process of rehabilitation in order to achieve a common objective. The team is made up of experts from a variety of areas, each with a different level of educational preparation, expectations for their careers, and duties. Therefore, the collaborative team model makes care more coordinated and efficient.
Social services: For the worker and family, it can be devastating when a worker becomes disabled due to an accident or any chronic illness. Stress, a permanent disability, and new social, financial, and personal responsibilities can all be too much for one person. Social workers are on hand to go over the changes that have taken place since the accident and look into potential fixes. They assist the patient in locating resources and services for support.
The primary physician/medical therapy: Assumes overall control of the patient's care plan and, as required, makes the proper referrals. He offers comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and education to patients who are experiencing pain as well as other medical issues like bowel, bladder, infection prevention, etc.
Physiatrist: A medical professional having training in physical and rehabilitative medicine.
Physical Therapy/therapist: Organize the rehabilitation of deficiencies, primarily musculoskeletal system deficits. through the use of heat, cold, massage, whirlpool baths, ultrasound exercises, and other methods, to restore the function of the muscles, bones, and nervous system. This treatment aims to reduce pain, increase strength and mobility, and instruct patients on how to carry out necessary daily activities.
Speech Therapy/Therapist: Assesses the patient's ability to swallow, works with them to improve their communication skills, and offers treatment suggestions. The patient with language or hearing, swallowing, or feeding disorders is retrained by the therapist. This helps the patient to correct his/ her speech and other related disorders.
Orthopedic Therapist: offers complete services, such as joint replacement, limb prosthesis, spinal injury, etc., to traumatic and amputee patients.
Occupational Therapy/therapist: Together with the patient, develops daily living skills and conducts cognitive testing. A vocational or occupational counselor helps the patient find employment and prepare for additional schooling needed for the position.
Dietician: Advises the patient and family on a healthy diet and any dietary changes required as a result of their sickness.
Neuropsychologist: Evaluates and treatments the distinct cognitive and emotional issues brought on by head trauma and neurological conditions.
Psychologist/Psychotherapy: Assess the patient's and their family's emotional and psychological reactions as they cope with the strain of the illness. In some cases, the patient or family may be helped by working with a psychiatrist.
Nursing Service: In rehabilitation, nurses are essential team members, especially when it comes to coordinating the efforts of the entire team. The nurse is in charge of providing the nursing care required in the rehabilitation program and is a key player in patient and family education through the use of the nursing process.
