Overview

Nepal Nursing Council (NNC) is a legislative entity designated and approved by the Nepali government for the systematic control of the country's nursing profession. It is a self-governing organization led by an executive board of registered nurses. The Nepal Nursing Council (NNC) was created by the Nepal Nursing Council Act 2052. (1996). It becomes effective on 2053-03-02. (16 June 1996). The role, functions, duties, and power of the council are to formulate policy required to run the nursing profession smoothly, to provide recognition to a teaching institution, to evaluate and review the curriculum, terms, and conditions of admission, to determine the work limit of nursing professionals, and to formulate a professional code of conduct for nursing professionals.

Initially, the office of the council was located within the Ministry of Health's facilities; however, it is now located in Dhumbarahi.

Role, Functions, Duties, and Power of Council

  1. To create the policies needed to keep the nursing profession running smoothly.
  2. In order to recognize a teaching institution.
  3. To examine and review the curriculum, admission terms and conditions, examination method, and other essential terms and conditions and infrastructure of a teaching institution that has received recognition under clause (B),
  4. If the evaluation and review conducted in accordance with subsection (C) reveal that a teaching institution has failed to meet the standards established by the council, the council shall make a recommendation to revoke the institution's approval to operate.
  5. To determine nursing professionals' credentials and to grant certification to certified nursing professionals after registering their names in the registration book,

  7. To develop a professional code of behavior for nursing professionals and to take action against individuals who breach such a code of conduct.

Constitution Of A Council

All of these powerful functions and tasks are carried out by the council members (Board of Directors). There is a group of members who represent various industries. The procedure for forming a council is as follows:

  1. One chairperson is nominated by the Nepal government from among the nurses who match the qualifications established by the Council Act.
  2. One member is nominated by the Nepal Government from among nurses with at least 12 years of experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Education.
  3. The Nepal Government has nominated two persons to serve as Campus Chiefs at Nursing College.
  4. Chairperson of NAN's ex-office.
  5. One member is appointed by the Director-General of the Department of Health.
  6. The Dean of IOM appoints one member.
  7. The Nepal Government has selected three nursing heads (Administrators) working at regional/Zonal Hospitals and the Directorate.
  8. On behalf of a consumer organization, the Nepal Government nominated one member from a list of nationally known individuals.
  9. CTEVT is represented by one member.
