Overview

Care Nepal 

Care Nepal is an international Non government organization (INGO) in Nepal. It runs on the basis of a fundamental agreement with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal, which enables it to carry out numerous community development projects and programs across the nation. The priorities of the government serve as a guidance for these initiatives and activities.

Currently, Care Nepal collaborates with over 80 local NGOs, 10 networks, and almost 1,000 community-based groups. Such alliances boost local partners' institutional capacities while also expanding the scope and durability of Care initiatives. Currently, Care Nepal runs 24 community development programs and national projects in 46 districts, with a particular emphasis on the mid and far western areas.

Vision

From the high Himalayas to the plains of the Terai, It seek a peaceful and harmonious society in which poor vulnerable and socially excluded people live in dignity, and their right are fulfilled. It will be a partner of choice and be recognized for our commitment to social justice.

Mission

It facilitates the empowerment of poor. vulnerable and socially excluded people to fulfill their basic needs and achieve social justice. This will be attained through;

  • Addressing social, cultural and political discrimination
  • Facilitating micro/macro linkages for policy influence
  • Local, regional and global alliances and partnership
  • Sustainable economic development
  • Conflict sensitive programming
  • Disaster risk reduction and emergency response

Goal

Care Nepal and partners work will lead to equitable and sustainable development resulting in greater gender and caste equity and improved livelihood of the poor, vulnerable and socially excluded. Our work will contribute toward creating an enabling environment where they can fulfill their rights.

Objectives

  • The overall objective of the project is to contribute towards poverty reduction and empowerment of highly marginalized Janajati (HMJs) in Nepal
  • The specific objective of the project is to protect & promote political, economic, social and cultural rights of Dhanuk, Thami and Sureljanjatis of Dhanusa and Dolakha districts.

Programming Principles:

Care Nepal formulated six guiding programming principles to fulfill its organizational level vision and mission. Such principles are mandatory and should be conformed in entirety.

Principle 1: Promote Empowerment

We stand in solidarity with poor and marginalized people, and support their efforts to take control of their own lives and fulfill their rights, responsibilities and aspirations. We ensure that key participants and organizations representing affected people are partners in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of our programs.

Principle 2: Work with Partners

'We work with others to maximize the impact of our programs, building alliances and partnerships with those who offer complementary approaches, are able to adopt effective programming approaches on a larger scale, and/or who have responsibility to fulfill rights and reduce poverty through policy change and enforcement.

Principle 3: Ensure Accountability and Promote Responsibility

We seek ways to be held accountable to poor and marginalized people whose rights are denied. We identify individuals and institutions with an obligation toward poor and marginalized people, and support and encourage their responsibilities. efforts to fulfill their

Principle 4: Address Discrimination

In our programs and offices, we address discrimination and the denial of rights based on sex, race, nationality, ethnicity, class, religion, age, physical ability, caste, opinion or sexual orientation.

Principle 5: Promote the Non-violent Resolution of Conflicts

We promote just and non-violent means for preventing and resolving conflicts at all levels, noting that such conflicts contribute to poverty and the denial of rights.

Principle 6: Seek Sustainable Results

As we address underlying causes of poverty and rights denial, we develop and use approaches that ensure our programs result in lasting and fundamental improvements in the lives of the poor and marginalized with whom we work

Major Activities of Care Nepal

  • Eeducating highly marginalized Janajatis (HM) people about social, cultural, and identity concerns and developing their ability.
  • With an emphasis on women and youth organizations, conducting participatory evaluations to discover economic prospects for those (HMI)s and assisting them to improve their capacity to exploit them.
  • Establishing connections with services Improvements made by natural suppliers to essential services including health, water, education, and resources conducting surveys, assessments, and evaluations on a frequent and timely basis.
  • Infrastructure improvements in remote areas and agricultural extension activities were the early areas of focus. Today, its programs cover a wide range of topics and encourage equitable and sustainable living by addressing the root causes of poverty and social injustices rather than just the symptoms.
  • It works to strengthen the capacity of the poor and disadvantaged so they can exercise their rights and participate in decision-making, in addition to promoting good governance, peace, and catastrophe risk reduction.
  • Through local partners, Care Nepal reaches out to the weak, vulnerable, and socially excluded segments of the community. It keeps up formal and informal partnerships with local NGOS, government organizations, communities, civil society organizations, federations, networks, and the private sector at various levels.
