Overview

Since 1981, JSI has been improving Nepal's health system by expanding access to essential services and supplies that benefit women, children, and communities' health and nutrition. For almost 40 years, JSI has worked in conjunction with the government, local and international partners, and other organizations to strengthen policy, develop leadership and management skills, and enhance service delivery, increase access to health resources, develop fresh ideas for community-based care, and boost community involvement. In Nepal, JSI has carried out more than 28 projects. Following the devastating earthquake in 2015, JSI worked with organizations focused on nutrition, WASH, and education to provide emergency relief for underserved neighborhoods, homeless individuals, and outlying villages.

JSI has implemented projects in the following technical areas:

 1. Family Planning and Reproductive Health

  • By educating health professionals on the most recent methods for family planning counseling and the introduction and use of contraceptive technology, it increases local capacity for family planning programs.
  • It works with governments, NGOs, and private sector partners to address issues like a lack of thorough and accurate information, subpar facilities, restricted access, and supply chain bottlenecks that prevent girls, women, and men from obtaining family planning services.
  • It supports contraceptive security, including supply management, in collaboration with the public and private sectors to guarantee that people may select, receive, and use high-quality contraceptives for family planning and STD prevention.
  • It promotes the inclusion of family planning in the primary care setting together with other essential health services like postpartum care, immunization, WASH, and HIV prevention and treatment among others.

2. Health system strengthening

4. Immunization

  • It uses more robust, long-lasting immunization programs to avoid disease.

  • JSI is a global leader in developing successful regular immunization programs, rolling out new vaccinations across the country, and enhancing the accuracy and utility of immunization data at the facility level.

5. Maternal Newborn and Child Health

  • The work of JSI increases access to high-quality healthcare for women, children, and families.
  • It works to improve pregnancy, delivery, neonatal, and child health services and results from the community to the healthcare facility.
  • It combines family planning, immunization, nutrition, sanitation, and, as necessary, HIV and other infectious disease prevention, care, and treatment with maternal and child health services.
  • In order to provide high-quality maternal, newborn, and child health services, it focuses on strengthening institutions from within and supporting government health systems to include community input and utilize resources to the fullest.
  • In more than 80 countries, it has collaborated with health ministries, community and faith-based organizations, the private sector, and international partners to establish and maintain health systems that can deliver life-saving services and supplies to enhance the health of women and children..

6. Nutrition

  • It aids in bolstering the food, health, and nutrition care systems so they can provide information, products, and services of the highest caliber. Through behavior-centered strategies that provide sustainable nutrition results, it also increases the capacity of care providers, families, and individuals.
  • It has established multi-sectoral programming to address the root causes of malnutrition in all of its manifestations. It offers technical assistance and encourages sectoral collaboration in order to strengthen and maintain programs that are grounded in evidence and cater to local needs.

7. Social and Behavior Change

  • With decades of experience working with national and local partners and at both the national and local levels, it has developed solid, dependable partnerships with the governments, civil society, communities, and business providers of various countries. As a result, we can collaborate closely with them to develop communication techniques for changing social behavior that are led locally, match the context and culture of the focus communities, and encourage long-lasting change.
  • To engage and inspire its target audiences, it uses a wide range of strategies and tools, including community media, social media, mass media, interpersonal communication, group events, and social mobilization.
