Overview

Since its inception in 1976, Save the Children has worked in Nepal to better the lives of the country's children. It works in 63 districts of Nepal on issues including child rights governance, child protection, education, health and nutrition, livelihoods, HIV/AIDS response, and humanitarianism. Members of the Alliance coordinate emergency assistance activities, reducing the risk of harm to children during times of conflict.

Commonly referred to simply as "Save the Children," the Save the Children Fund is a global non-governmental organization (NGO) that works to protect and advance the rights of children worldwide. It was founded in the United Kingdom in 1919 to help children in times of crisis such as war, natural catastrophes, and poverty. Since its inception in 1976, Save the Children has worked in Nepal to better the lives of the country's children by implementing initiatives in line with the National plan of Action for Children and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. activities involving children, communities, civil society groups, the media, and the government as vital participants in the protection of children's rights.

Objectives:

  • To help them play a stronger role.
  • To ensure that children's rights are protected, and to seek long-term solutions that will help children and their communities recover from disasters and thrive in the face of adversity.

Major activities:

  • It works in 63 districts of Nepal on issues including child rights governance, child protection, education, health and nutrition, livelihoods, HIV/AIDS response, and humanitarianism with more than 100 partners (including the Government of Nepal).
  • The organization wants policy changes to give young people more rights, especially by enforcing the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child. Members of the Alliance coordinate emergency assistance activities, reducing the risk of harm to children during times of conflict. The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations recognizes Save the Children as a non-governmental organization with special consultative status.
